Cake Inspirations

>> Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Planning this wedding so far has taken so much time and hard work. Surprisingly my fiance and I have been agreeing on decor, flowers, lighting, etc. Well last week the cake came into play because we have our first interview with a baker on March 7th. I showed him exactly what I wanted: clean, simple & elegant. Guess what? He hated them, hated all of them. To say the least I got so angry but held it all inside and kept a straight face, I didn't say a word because I figured it would cause an unnecessary argument so I smiled and said we can look through some magazines to find something the both of us can agree on. We have yet to do that but we will eventually get to it before our meeting. Did you guys have any battles to fight with your FH? I know this is just more of his wedding as it is mine but honestly, I really want to pick out the cake. I told him to just let me pick the design and he can get whatever flavor inside that he wants, nope he doesn't want that. Errrrr!!!! Here are the gorgeous cakes that I so love and he loathes.

I love the cakes you picked out! Maybe ask you fiance to browse through some pictures and show you ideas of what he likes to get an idea of the look he is going for. Have you asked him what he doesn't like about the cakes you picked out? Maybe there is one small element that he dis-likes that you could eliminate.
Would he allow you to go with the cake you love if you were to allow him to pick out a grooms cake?!? My fiance is letting me have complete say on my cake since he gets complete say on the grooms cake. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Wow, the cakes pictured are gorgeous. We also had a few disagreements over cakes but eventually it all came down to price. What he wanted was much more expensive so in the end we compromised on a totally different option.

Things may totally change once you actually meet with the baker. It wasn't until then we found out what was possible for what price.

Ooops I totally forgot to say what he wanted. He wants a chocolate cake with fresh strawberries.

It's a great cake but it is just not elegant enough for me, it doesn't go with our vintage classic look.

thank you for posting that first one! I'd seen it on style me pretty and totally forgot to bookmark it- then i couldn't remember where I'd seen it. I love it so much. :)

btw- if your budget allows, you could always come to the compromise we've decided on... i pick the wedding cake but have no say in his grooms cake & vice versa.

I am so with you on all of the all white/ivory cakes...they look amazing! M could care less about how it looks so long as it tests great.

I love the cakes you picked out. I actually have a few of the pictures you have for your inspiration and will be borrowing one more of the ones you have up:)

Idea- I think the main cake table would look wonderful with a more dainty and traditional cake such as the ones you've selected and he can have a chocolate-strawberry creation for his groom's cake!

OR(!!!)

You could have two small or medium size cakes side-by-side on the same table. One the dainty white one, and the other the chocolate-colored one. Sort-of playing up the bride/groom thing and dainty/manly thing. PLUS it could symbolize a compromise and a combination of ideas (and lives) between you two!

Ok, may have gone too deep, but hope that was somewhat helpful!

Sidenote: This may be the way to work in the people who love white cake and those whoe love chocolate!!

He reads my blog, lol he said that he didn't absolutely want the choco/strawberry cake. He said that it could have been an option. I just think he's over it. He told me I could pick anything I wanted as long as he can pick the flavor.
