Wedding Dress Preservation...

>> Thursday, July 15, 2010

My gorgeous dress has been in my closet in the bag for almost 4 months now and I just can't decide if that's the way I want to keep it or if I want to actually pay to have it preserved. I'm just wondering if I should sell it and try to get some of my money back. My daughters love it now, but will either of them really wear it for their weddings? Did any of you married ladies preserve your dress or did you sell it?

I found some great places on-line that offer preservation but they are pricey and I would have to send my dress off to some unknown place and that scares me. So I will take any and all advice on what to do my "third daughter" as I call her.

I have zero clue what I'm going to do with my dress. Actually, I've been thinking about giving it away to some one who can't afford a dress. I know I don't want to keep it for future hypothetical daughters. I don't need the money. Might as well get some good karma, right?

Well after working in a bridal shop for 3 years, I will tell you that if you decide to keep it - the best thing to do is to put it in a breathable bag. That way air and can flow in and out of it and it won't turn yellow over time.

I thought about selling mine but it was made custom for me :/
I don't know if they're a lot of 4'11 brides out there, lol.

Good post! I have no idea what I am going to do with my dress after the wedding. I am afraid of it getting damaged!

I took mine to get preserved, but i have not received it yet. It is going to take about 3 months so i should get it back around end of august i think. They said they will put it in a box with a display window, and the veil in a different box with display window as well. Now the question is where will I put this box?!

A lot of dry cleaners offer preservation boxes. I plan on most likely trying to sell it if it is still in good enough condition. But I am not keeping it with the hopes that my daughter will wear it...nah, I just love the idea of dress shopping with her too much to think that way.

Darn good question. I love my dress but it is basically useless and just takes up space.

I have a forum that I follow and I posted pics of my dress and people have already asked about buying it even before my wedding so i guess it's a no brainer what i'll do with mine.

I really see no point in keeping it. My wish is that the person who buys it, sells it or gives it away and so on until hundreds of people get to enjoy it.

My dear, dear friend Jeana. Oh how I've missed ya! I'm back in the game! HA! Well, if ya ask me I'd probably want to keep it, preserve it and pop it out when it's your girls get married. They can do all sorts of things with it to make it their own. Missed ya chica! xoxo
