6 Month Freak Out!!!!

>> Monday, August 31, 2009

Until this point, I have had a blast planning this wedding and was really wishing the time away, just wanting our big day to get here. I just looked at the countdown and realized that I have six months and some change until the wedding. I went into complete freak mode and had a break-down that I was not expecting. What in the world was that all about? Did anyone else experience this? I have planned so much and things are going as they should so I am not sure where all the stress is coming from? I hope its just a bump in the road that will work itself out. Share your stories of how you handled stressful times.

Too Cute...DIY Bridesmaid Cards

>> Wednesday, August 26, 2009

I have mentioned Once Wed on this blog more than once because they have endless Do-it-yourself projects that are both easy and affordable. They have been such a huge inspiration for me while planning this wedding. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to share with you these SUPER CUTE and UNIQUE Will You Be My Bridesmaid? Cards (if I had not already made my cards, these would definitely be on my DIY list of things to do)::

Directions provided By Anna of Rifle Design

{Supplies} 1. craft paper (for clothes & hair), 2. paper for bodies, 3. envelopes, 4. ruler, 5. scissors, 6. pencil, eraser & a glue stick

{Directions} First, be sure that your chain will fit in the envelope you chose. I decided to make my chain about 6 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide to fit in an A7 envelope. Draw tick marks every 3.5 inches (or whatever width you chose) on the top and bottom of the paper for how many people you want to cut out (I chose 6).

Cut out your rectangle and score the paper vertically between each set of tick marks. This will make folding easier and more accurate. Then, fold the paper accordion style.

On the top of the stack draw the shape of your person. Be sure to draw the arms and legs to the edge of the paper so that they will be attached into a chain after you cut it out.

To complete the set I wrapped a band of paper around the chain and information card and wrote the name of the person I was to be sending it to.

My DIY Bling Cake Topper

>> Monday, August 24, 2009

The bling or glitzy cake toppers have always been my favorite, because I just think it adds such an elegance to the cake. It was NOT in my budget to purchase a finished letter. I started to do some research and figure out a way to make my own without breaking the bank. That's when I came across a bride on The Knot raving about "Craft Eddy". He makes custom wooden cake toppers that are unfinished and ready to be decorated however you choose. I contacted Eddie in the morning and had my letter in the mail by 5pm, the turnaround was tremendous!
After my letter arrived I painted it a champagne color and then used my hotfix tool to adhere the 250 Swarovski crystals I ordered from Artbeads.com. The entire process took about 4 hours.

Total Cost:
Custom 6" Letter~$14 (shipping included)
Folk Art Champagne Paint~$1.89
300 Hotfix Swarovski Crystals~ $30.00

TOTAL::$45.89 (saved about $133.11)

My Nadri Earrings!!

>> Monday, August 17, 2009

I finally have earrings that I love! They are made by Nadri and I love them. These cuties are not too big, with just the right amount of bling that I was looking for. Not to mention they look so good with my beautiful bracelet. I was thinking that only pearl earrings would match my bracelet but the bling in both pieces match very well together.

My DIY Shoe Rhinestones

I really wanted to order the Mindy Weiss shoe applique but every time I went to order it they were either out of stock or discontinued which was a bummer. I finally got frustrated and decided to surf the net to see if I could find an easy tutorial to make my own. I didn't search long before I found great instructions here. Although I like her instructions I chose to go an easier route by using Crystallized™ Swarovski® flatback hotfix crystals and the Jolee's Hotfix Heating tool. It was not the most cost efficient way to go about it but they came out GREAT. Here are my instructions in case you want to try this:

Materials::

  • Jolee's Hotfix Heating Tool ($10, I had a 50% off coupon)
  • Jolee's Aquamarine Hotfix Crystals, ($4.99 for 42 count)
  • Scissors (already had)
  • A straight pen or needle
  • Letters printed from Microsoft Word
  • And of course your shoes!

Instructions::
  • {Step 1}: Cut the printed letters out and taped them to the bottom of my shoes (I would not recommend this if the bottom of your shoes are leather like mine because the tape did leave a little residue on my shoes but I got it off)

  • {Step 2}: Next take the needle and gently poke holes through the paper tracing out the letter onto the bottom of your shoe.

  • {Step 3}: Use the hotfix tool and crystals as directed on the box to adhere the crystals on the shoe in the shape of the letters. This part is kind of tricky so pay close attention to the the directions.

That is it and you're done! Although this wasn't the best for the budget I am going to use the hotfix tool for many of my DIY projects including my cake topper, bridal hoodie, invites, programs & menus so it was definitely be worth the money for me. BE SURE TO CHECK IN WEDNESDAY FOR A HUGE GIVEAWAY!!!!
